FOI Request: University student dropout rate 2017-2022

We're waiting for Laura Stewart-Liberty to read a recent response and update the status.

Laura Stewart-Liberty

Dear Royal Conservatoire of Scotland,

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am writing to all UK universities with this request.

For each academic year from 2017 to present (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, up to the date this FOI request is received), I would like to know the following:

(1) total number of undergraduate students, and total number of postgraduate students enrolled in each academic year;

(2) total number of undergraduate students who have dropped out, ceased, or interrupted their studies unofficially or officially in each academic year;

(3) total number of postgraduate students who have also dropped out, ceased, or interrupted their studies unofficially or officially in each academic year.

I would like the above information divided by sex of the student, and the academic department of study to be indicated, if possible.

If you require any clarification or there are any issues with the processing of this request, please do let me know as soon as possible. Otherwise, I look forward to your response within the statutory deadline of 20 working days from the receipt of this request.
Please provide this information in the form of an Excel spreadsheet or any other applicable form of table. Many thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully,
Laura Stewart-Liberty

Dear Ms Stewart-Liberty,

Thank-you for your request, received by the Royal Conservatoire of
Scotland. Our response is attached and is given with the following
context.

As requested, student numbers have been broken down by department (Drama,
Music, Learning and Teaching), level of study (PG - postgraduate, PGR –
postgraduate research, UG – undergraduate) and sex. The sex field
corresponds directly to the Sex Identifier HESA Field
([1]https://www.hesa.ac.uk/collection/c21051...). In this field the
sex of the student is recorded. The possible valid entries are male,
female and other.

The HESA rounding method has been applied to all data presented
([2]https://www.hesa.ac.uk/about/regulation/...).
This data was collated on 11/03/2022. This marks the point within the
2021-22 academic year up to which the numbers are accurate.

Students on courses which are not included in HESA returns have been
excluded from the data presented.

The registration status of students is tracked, and no exclusions based on
this field have been made for counting the total number of UG and PG
students enrolled in each academic year. Students that have a registration
status of suspended, withdrawn, termination of studies, or leave of
absence have been included in the count of undergraduate and postgraduate
students that dropped out, ceased, or interrupted their studies
unofficially or officially in each academic year.

I do hope this data satisfies your request in full, but please do let me
know if we can offer any further assistance.

Yours sincerely,
