Flights

The request was successful.

Dear Bournemouth Borough Council,

Could you tell me how much Bournemouth Borough Council spent on flights for its staff and or councillors for council related business within the UK only in each of the past 5 financial years; The reasons why flights were used; If any case during the timeframe did any staff member and or councillor requested their spouse to be included with them for council related business; The council criteria with regards to spouses accompanying councillors and or staff members on council related business. If any case during same timeframe did the council ever paid either fully or partial the expense related to a spouse accompanying councillor and or staff member on council business

Yours faithfully,
Eamonn Patterson

Dear Mr Patterson,

Information Request – Freedom of Information Act

Further to your request for information received on the 3^rd November 2014
please find enclosed the material that you asked for.

Please find attached spreadsheet showing the breakdown of the £1,382
Bournemouth Borough Council has spent since November 2009 on flights for
its staff for council related business. We are unable to provide details
of whether these were only UK flights, because this information has not
been recorded on the database.  However, we are providing all the flight
travel expenditure information we have recorded and, given the low costs,
is seems likely that some of these are UK flights.

Please also refer to the attached business travel policy overview and
business travel decisions documents which advise that wherever possible
and practical the cheapest form of travel is used. It also advises that
flights should only be used in exceptional circumstances. To the best of
our knowledge no councillors have claimed for travel for flights.  Neither
Scheme of Allowances (Councillors), nor officer travel policy allows for
costs of travel associated with spouses.

I hope that this deals with your request satisfactorily.
