OFRS FOI, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service

Our Reference FOI 16719

Dear Hana,

Thank you for your request for information received on 16^th April 2020
requesting information held by OCC on fires in the construction industry.

I am writing to ask you to clarify your request.  This is because we need
further details from you in order to identify the information you are
seeking. Your FOI subject header is ‘Fire in buildings under construction’
but the questions ask about fires in the ‘construction industry’, please
can you specify which you are seeking information on as the latter could
include any fire on a building/construction site e.g. vehicles.

Our Incident Data is collected and stored on the Home Office Incident
Recording System known as IRS, the system does not use industry types only
property types e.g. dwelling / vehicle etc. However, we can carry out a
search of messages from incidents using the terms ‘building site’ or
‘construction site’ and then filter out anything not fire related.
Depending on your answer to the question above, we may need to filter
again to remove anything not in a building under construction which would
remove things like vehicles on fire etc.

Similarly, IRS does not list ‘hot works’ as a fire cause so we are unable
to search on this, however once we know whether we are looking at fires on
construction/building sites or fires in buildings on building/construction
sites, we can provide the cause of the fire as given in IRS for any
incidents found that match the criteria and the numbers of any associated
injuries/fatalities.

Once we have these details your enquiry will be reconsidered and you will
receive the information requested, unless an exemption applies.

Please contact me if you would like some advice on refining your request.
Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future
communications.

Yours sincerely

Dear Paul,

Thank you very much for getting back to me.

To clarify my request.
The request would include data of any fire on buildings on building/construction
sites caused by hot work which is any fire started by welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, or similar flame or spark-producing operations.

If you could carry out a search of messages from incidents using the terms ‘building site’ or
‘construction site’ and then filter out anything not fire related, that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Hana Bednarova
