Figures on sexual assault

We're waiting for Scarlett O'Toole to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear London School of Economics,

I would like access to the figures for the number of sexual assault allegations made by students against other students at your university. I would like the figures to be from the academic years 2018/19 and 2019/20.

Yours faithfully,
Scarlett O'Toole

GLPD.Info.Rights, London School of Economics

Dear Scarlett

Further to your recent FoI request, the Schools response is provided
below:

In 2018/19 there were four sexual assault allegations made by students
against other students at the School, all of which were subject to formal
disciplinary proceedings, and two of which were not upheld. In terms of
2019/20, we do not have the complete figures available for the current
academic year, as this period does not end until 1st September 2020 (the
start of the new academic year). While this information is currently
unavailable, we will be able to release it to you upon request in
September 2020.

Please Note:

a)       The School has various initiatives to [1]support students who are
victims of sexual violence.

·       Reports of sexual misconduct can be made by students through the
School’s online reporting form “Report It. Stop It” (introduced in July
2016) and may be made anonymously. The “Report It. Stop It” form
[lse.ac.uk/reportit] is just one way in which students can report bullying
and harassment, including sexual misconduct.

·       We offer counselling services to all students that uses
counsellors who have received specialist training on dealing with cases of
sexual violence.

·       The School has a group of volunteer staff called ‘Safe Contacts’.
They offer a confidential listening and signposting service for all staff
and students who experience any form harassment. Safe Contacts can issue
letters of support for student survivors in instances of exam deferrals
and deadline extension. This is to save student survivors from repeating
their story to multiple staff members.

·       Members of our security team have also received sexual violence
training.

·       We have partnered with [2]Rape Crisis to provide monthly
appointments to female student survivors of sexual violence, and we are
working with [3]Survivors UK to provide a similar provision for male
students.

·       Bullying and harassment can be reported using [4]LSE's dedicated
online form. The report is treated confidentially and followed up promptly
and fairly.

·       We provide a guide for reporting sexual harassment or sexual
violence [5]as a student, and a [6]guide for staff to handling cases of
student sexual violence, harassment and abuse.
