Excessive motorcycle noise

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Transport,
I amde the request and received the response below.
The report that I referenced was from the BBC, you will be able to Google it.
The BBC reported that the DfT was investigating the use of acoustic sensors to improve detection of such noise.
Surrey Police do not collect this data, nor, it seems, do the Home Office request it from them.
Please provide the data held by DfT that has justified investment in acoustic sensors as referenced in the BBC report.
If the BBC is incorrect, please confirm.
Thank you, Andrew Pleming

"Dear Andrew PLEMING,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST REFERENCE: 001885/20

I write in connection with your request for information received on
received 19/05/2020.

You had asked:

Hampshire Constabulary received several complaints regarding bikes
disrupting the peace. The Constabulary applied a legal noise limit for
motorcycles as between 73 and 77 decibels. After seven roadside operations
in Hampshire's Meon Valley, officers issued 95 tickets.

QUESTION: In the year to 31/03/2020, how many tickets have Surrey Police
issued in the MOLE VALLEY?

Response:

Section 1 of the Freedom of information Act 2000 (FOIA) places two duties
on public authorities. Unless exemptions apply, the first duty at
s1(1)(a) is to confirm or deny whether the information specified within a
request is held. The second duty at s1(1)(b) is to disclose information
that has been confirmed as being held. Where exemptions are relied upon
Section 17 of the FOIA requires that we provide the applicant with a
notice which: a) states that fact, b) specifies the exemption(s) in
question and c) state (if that would not otherwise be apparent) why the
exemption applies.

Following receipt of your request, enquiries were directed to our Central
Ticket Office for any information as per the above specified request.
There was a ‘nil’ return.

We would therefore deduce that there is no information held by Surrey
Police pursuant to your request.

I bring to your attention that police forces in the United Kingdom are
routinely required to provide statistics to government bodies and the
recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for
recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used
locally in capturing the data. The data warehouse is a "live" system and
is subject to change as incidents are finalised. In other words, incidents
may be initially recorded under a specific category but change with new
information. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's
response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with
any other response you may receive.

Surrey Police provides you the right to request a re-examination of your
case under its review procedure. How to do this is set out in the attached
Appeals Notice. Having followed the full procedure, if you are still
dissatisfied, then you have the right to direct your comments to the
Information Commissioner who will give your case consideration.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in
Surrey Police. Should you have any further enquiries concerning this
matter, please write or contact us on 01483 - 630007 quoting the reference
number above.

Yours Sincerely,

Dear Matt Lacovara,

1) the weblink is here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england...
2) "the data" referes to the inputs upon which DfT made the decision to spend public money:
The Department for Transport said it was currently deciding where to trial roadside acoustic technology, which it said would "lead the way to providing the peace and quiet local people deserve".

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Pleming
