Dear Ms Tan,

We have completed the compilation of information in response to your
request.

We can confirm that we do hold the information of the description
specified in your request and this information, where it is not exempt,
has been provided below.

Under the request of information act, may I request the following data for
Ba Politics, Sociology and East European Studies with a Year Abroad for
2017/2018:

Q1) The number of offers made.

A1) <4.

Q2) The number of students enrolled.

A2) <4 students enrolled but, applied for a different course.

Q3) The number of students who missed their offers.

A3) <4 students missed offer.

Q4) The number of students who missed their offers and was still accepted.

A4) 0.

Q5) The results of the students who missed their offer and was still
accepted.

A5) Not applicable – see answer to question 4 above.

Q6) Of those who were accepted despite missing their offer, how many had
EC (extenuating circumstances)?

A6) Not applicable – see answer to question 4 above.

Q7) Of those who were accepted despite missing their offer, how many were
home applicants and how many were international applicants?

A7) Not applicable – see answer to question 4 above.

Q8) The results of the students enrolled.

A8) This information has been withheld for the reasons given below.

As you can see, exact counts of four or less and the results of the
enrolled students have been withheld because these are personal data of
third parties or, if linked with other personal identifiers in the public
domain, would be likely to become personal data. This information has been
withheld under section 40(2) of the FOIA by virtue of s40 (3)(a)(i).

Section 40(2) of the FOIA allows a public authority to withhold
information under the FOIA where (i) the requested information is personal
data relating to someone other than the requester and (ii) its disclosure
would breach any of the data protection principles. In this case we
believe that the requested information could relate to and identify
individual students and would be considered as their personal data. The
disclosure of this personal data would not be within the reasonable
expectations of the individuals concerned and it would be unfair to do so;
this therefore breaches the first data protection principle.

It is for these reasons that this information is exempt under section
40(2) of the Act.

You are free to use any information supplied for your own use, including
for non-commercial research purposes. The information may also be used for
the purposes of news reporting. However, any other type of re-use, for
example by publishing or issuing copies to the public, will require the
permission of the copyright owner.

If you are unhappy with our response to your request and wish to make a
complaint or request a review of our decision, please email

Review’ in the subject and be marked For the Attention of the Vice Provost
