Engineering statistics

The request was successful.

Dear Magdalene College, Cambridge,

For the current and past 5 UCAS cycles, may I request you to kindly provide me with the following numbers for Engineering course at your college:
1. The number of applicants applying from China to your college;
2. The number of direct offers made to applicants applying from China to your college;
3. The number of winter pool offers made by your college to applicants applying from China who originally applied to other colleges;
4. The number of winter pool offers made by other colleges to applicants applying from China who originally applied to your college;
5. The number of acceptances.
6. The number of offers made to open applicants.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. Hall

Kathryn Gee,

Dear Mr Hall

I refer to your recent request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
regarding Engineering admissions statistics.

We do not hold all of the information you request. Other than  for the
current admissions round (2020) we only hold personal information (such as
nationality) on those applicants who have been successful in obtaining a
place at Magdalene.

For the current admissions round the responses to your questions are as
follows:

1.       11

2.       0-5

3.       0-5

4.       0-5

5.       0-5

6.       0-5

The range 0-5 is given where very small numbers are involved and to
release the precise figure would risk identification of the personal data
of individuals (exempt under section 40(2) of the Act). In this case, the
admissions round is still ongoing and so the release of precise data has
the potential to cause distress to the individuals concerned.

The College’s complaints procedure provides for an internal review of the
decisions regarding this response if you are dissatisfied with it.  You
should let me know if you wish to use it, letting me know your reasons for
dissatisfaction and any other matters to which the College should have
regard.  The review will be conducted by another officer of the College
who was not involved in responding to the original request.

You have a right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision
whether, in any specified respect, your request to the College for
information has been dealt with in accordance with the requirements of the
Freedom of Information Act.  Details may be found on the Information
Commissioner’s website at [1]www.ico.gov.uk.

Kind regards,

Kathryn

Dear Kathryn Gee,

Thank you very much for processing my FOI request.

May I follow up to request you to provide me with the following information among applicants to Magdalene College whose domicile is China (mainland) for the years 2015-2020:

a. the % of direct offers
b. the % of applicants who were pooled to the Winter Pool and finally received an offer from other colleges

Yours sincerely,

Mr Hall

Kathryn Gee,

Dear Mr Hall,

With reference to the follow-up to your Freedom of Information request below.

(a) As stated previously, we only hold this type of information for 2020 as we do not hold data on unsuccessful applicants from previous years (so a % would be impossible to find).
In 2020, across all undergraduate subjects, 32 % of applicants whose home address is in China received offers from the College.

(b) We do not hold information on pooled candidates who have since received an offer from another College.

Kind regards,

Kathryn
