Darryl J Lee (Mr.)

Dear Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy,

It has been repeatedly reported that there is an "energy shortage". The energy shortage is often described as an "energy crisis" carrying a risk of "Blackout(s)". The energy crisis is reportedly said to be getting worse, i.e. the "safety gap" (the gap between the amount of electricity generated and the amount of electricity consumed) is getting smaller. [A] Is this true? And if so;- [B] Is / are there any steps that the general public to do to prevent or reduce that risk (of blackout)? And; [C] What time of day is considered to be the period of most potential risk?

Yours faithfully,

Darryl J Lee (Mr.)

Dear [email address] on behalf of Ms Val Dias,

Thank you for writing to me regarding a reported "energy crisis".

It appears that you have not answered my questions (or supplied information in order to answer those questions).

I asked for information about a reported energy crisis with a "risk of blackouts". I asked "[A] Is this true? And if so;- [B] Is / are there any steps that the general public to do to prevent or reduce that risk (of blackout)? And; [C] What time of day is considered to be the period of most potential risk?"

You replied with details of auctions of capacity four years in advance of consumption and told me that "The UK power supply is not threatened by increased use of renewable generation".

If you could please reconsider my request i'd be very grateful. (My questions again...) [A] Is it true that the UK is at risk of "Blackouts"? [B] Are there any steps the general public can do to prevent a risk of blackout? and [C] is there a particular time of day when demand for energy is at the highest?

Yours sincerely,

Darryl J Lee (Mr.)

Dias Val (Communications), Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
