Empty Properties

We're waiting for Shaahid Quinn to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Caerphilly County Borough Council,

I am writing to ask you to supply details of The address (including street number and postcode) of homes that

a) have been empty for over 6 months
b) have been empty for under 6 months
c) your empty homes strategy including what empty homes (if any) you prioritise.

I currently have investment properties in Caerphilly and would very much like to work with the council to bring empty properties in the area back into a habitable state and to work with the council in tackling the massive shortage of accommodation in the area.I have my own funding as well, which I would like to invest into the restoration of these empty and/or derelict properties.

If you are not able to provide me with the address and post code for empty properties owned by individuals, can you then please provide me with the address and postcode for all empty properties owned by a company.

Yours faithfully,

Shaahid Quinn

Dear Shaahid Quinn

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST

Thank you for your request for information received on 10th December. We
enclose the following information to partially answer your request -

(c) Your empty homes strategy including what empty homes (if any) you
prioritise.

The Authority does not have an Empty Homes Strategy however the return to
use of empty homes is a key priority in the Councilâ s Private Sector
Housing Renewal Strategy. The section on Empty Homes identifies our
strategic objectives to be:

1. To increase the supply of good quality accommodation.

2. To further develop working relationships with internal and external
partners to develop and sustain initiatives to maximize the return of
empty properties to beneficial use.

3. To raise awareness of empty property issues with owners.

4. To maximize all resources (funding, advice, planning powers and
enforcement action) to return long-term empty properties to beneficial
use.

5. To promote the availability of financial assistance and other services
to private landlords and owners.

The Authority not only responds to complaints but pro-actively targets
those properties which have been empty for more than 6 months with a
particular focus on those whose appearance/condition detracts from the
amenities of the neighbourhood.

Financial assistance in the form of loans is available to the owners of
empty homes to assist in returning them to use.

However on this occasion we cannot supply all the information you have
asked for. In respect of the remainder of your request, and in accordance
with Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 this letter acts as
a Refusal Notice.  We consider that the public interest in withholding the
information outweighs the public interest in disclosing it.

The exemption applied is S.31(a) - Law Enforcement.  For further details
on why this exemption applies please see the attached document.

We supply this information based on your original request.  If this is not
what you wanted or if you feel we have not fully understood your request
please do not hesitate to contact me to clarify your exact requirements.

Although we cannot meet all of your request this time, if you have any
further information needs in the future then please contact
