Dear Glasgow Caledonian University,
FOI request. Can I have all emails sent and received from/by all of the GCU mailboxes (and/or any aliases/old names) operated by the Students Association, between September 2007 and now (or as long as records go back if they don't stretch that far).
Dear Mr McLean
I refer to your request received by the University today, the 19th October 2012 (email below).
In order to respond to your request the University would
- need to identify all mailboxes operated by the Students Association over the past 5 years.
- restore the tracking logs for the past 5 years
- run a programme against each of the tracking logs to identify emails sent to/from the required mailboxes.
- restore each email, if possible, which could be held centrally or on a member of staff's PC.
This is an enormous job and the University estimates that it will require weeks of work. Hence the cost to the University of providing the requested information would exceed the cost prescribed in the regulations of £600. Hence the University is relying on Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 paragraph 12(1) Excessive cost of compliance together with paragraph 13(2) to withhold the requested information.
However if you could narrow the scope of your request in order to help us identify the information that you require (i.e. what information you are looking for), and where it is likely to be (i.e. specific email addresses) and approximate timescales the University may be able to satisfy your requirements.
