Email address for contacting student loans company

The request was successful.

Dear Student Loans Company Limited,

I live overseas, I do not want to make a call to contact you and spend a long time on hold and pay the associated fee. Contacting by email would be much easier and more efficient, and yet you do not provide one on your website.

You are obliged to provide an email address on your web site as per 6(c) of The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002.

Please provide an email address for making contacting you easier.

I look forward to hearing from you,
Sarah Crowley

FOI Requests, Student Loans Company Limited

Dear Ms Crawley

I refer to your recent email dated 11/05/2018 requesting the following
information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“FOIA”):
“I live overseas, I do not want to make a call to contact you and spend a
long time on hold and pay the associated fee. Contacting by email would be
much easier and more efficient, and yet you do not provide one on your
website.

You are obliged to provide an email address on your web site as per 6(c)
of The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002.

Please provide an email address for making contacting you easier.”

Response

It is a matter of opinion whether the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive)
Regulation 2002 (the “Regulations”) apply to the Student Loans Company
Limited (“SLC”), and this response is not intended to confirm or deny
whether SLC is bound by this legislation.

I can confirm that there is no generic customer services/enquiries email
address for customers, however the email address provided at
[2]https://www.slc.co.uk/students-and-custo...
is sufficient for meeting the requirements of regulation 6(c) of the
Regulations in the event that these do apply to SLC.  Accordingly, the
information you have requested is considered technically exempt from
disclosure under section 21(1) of the FOIA as this is reasonably
accessible to you by other means.  If an email does not constitute a
complaint it will be forwarded to the relevant department, as confirmed in
the auto-response which is sent on an email being received by this
mailbox.

In addition our telephone contact channels telephone (details available at
[3]https://www.slc.co.uk/students-and-custo...),
customers can contact SLC through a number of online channels, including:
·         private messaging through social media for Student Finance
England customers has been introduced – with SLC being one of the first
government agencies to use private social messaging to communicate with
customers.
·        customers in repayment can now complete a Confirmation of
Customer Details Form or Overseas Income Assessment Form online (available
at [4]www.repayment.slc.co.uk).

Internal review process

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review.

Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date
of receipt of the response to your original request and should be
addressed to the Freedom of Information Office, Student Loans Company
Limited, 100 Bothwell Street, Glasgow, G2 7JD,   Email:
[SLC request email].  Please remember to quote the reference number
above in any future communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.  The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:

Information Commissioner's Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
