Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Bradford City Council,

I would like to know about any eco-friendly steps Bradford Council will be taking this Christmas (2021):

- Will you be using eco-friendly Christmas lights?
- Will you be starting any recycling initiatives over the festive period to discard of wrapping paper in a sustainable way?
- Will you be enforcing biodegradable/eco-friendly paper plates and utensils in Christmas markets if you should host one?
- If you are hosting a Christmas market this year, are there any other ways you will be enforcing sustainable and eco-friendly practices?
- Will you be placing sustainably grown/sourced Christmas Trees in the town or city centre?

Yours faithfully,

Sophie Barker

Freedom of Information, Bradford City Council

Dear Ms Barker

I refer to your request dated 24th September 2021 under the Freedom of
Information Act asking to supply the following information:

Will you be using eco-friendly Christmas lights?

Response - All light features use LED which use the minimal power
therefore energy in their operation.

Will you be starting any recycling initiatives over the festive period to
discard of wrapping paper in a sustainable way?

Response - The Council has no plans for any initiatives on this other
than promotions around the 'scrunch test' for paper at festive events.
Suitable, clean wrapping paper can be placed in the recycling bin and will
be sorted accordingly by our recycling processes. The following applies:

· Wrapping paper can only be recycled if it passes the scrunch test -
simple paper wrap can be recycled but foil or glitter-decorated paper
cannot and needs to go in the general waste

· Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper
additives such as gold and silver coloured shapes, glitter, plastics etc.
which cannot be recycled

· Some wrapping paper is very thin and contains few good quality fibres
for recycling

· A lot of wrapping paper has sticky tape attached to it which makes it
very difficult to recycle, so before recycling, remove any sticky tape and
decorations such as ribbons and bows as these cannot be recycled

Will you be enforcing biodegradable/eco-friendly paper plates and utensils
in Christmas markets if you should host one?

Response - The Council is not hosting any Christmas markets this year.

If you are hosting a Christmas market this year, are there any other ways
you will be enforcing sustainable and eco-friendly practices?

Response - Please see above response.

Will you be placing sustainably grown/sourced Christmas Trees in the town
or city centre?

Response - Under Part 1 section 1(a) of the Freedom Of Information Act, I
must inform you that the Council does not hold the information requested.
Please contact Jonny Noble at Bradford Bid.  [1][email address]
