Vale of Glamorgan Council

Dear A Ellingsworth

Thank you for your request for information on 14th September about:

Drag Queen Story Hour at Vale of Glamorgan Council Libraries

Please see responses to your questions below:

Did the event go ahead as planned? - Yes

Were there any in-person protests? - Yes

Were there any complaints about the event? If yes, how many complaints did
you receive and what was the nature of the complaints?
- Yes. we received 20 complaints, generally making the point that they
felt the event was unsuitable for children

What was the overall cost of planning and hosting the event? (Please
include any fees or costs for the Drag Queen Performer and value of staff
hours.) Did the Drag Queen read from their own published material?
- We do not release the charge made by individual performers. There were

book.

Section 40 – Personal Information
It is considered that this exemption under Section 40(2) of the Act
applies, namely that some of the information is personal information and
all personal details are protected under the Data Protection Act 2018
legislation. The Council cannot disclose personal information where to do
so would breach any of the data protection principles.

In this case, we consider that due to public performances associated with
the individual there is a degree of identification and to publicly release
details of their income and earnings equates to publishing personal
information linked to the person, therefore disclosure would breach the
rights of the individuals under the Act.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter and should be addressed to: The Monitoring Officer, Civic
Offices, Holton Road, Barry, CF63 4RU.
