Dr Eirini Skouta

The request was successful.

Dear General Medical Council,

Could you please provide details on which authority currently employs the following doctor:

Dr Eirini Skouta (Greek national), GMC registration number 4681841

and whether this doctor is licensed to practise as a child and adolescent psychiatrist without supervision in England. Has this doctor had to undergo any examinations when she immigrated from Greece and when did she start work in this country (your website gives 2000 as the year of first registration)? Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

C. Smith-Byrne

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your email below.

I can confirm that the GMC do not routinely collect employment details
from doctors. In Dr Skouta's case we do not hold any current employment
details.

Dr Skouta is fully registered with a licence to practise and her specialty
is recorded as child and adolescent psychiatry.

I can confirm that Dr Skouta has been registered to practise in the UK
since 09 February 2000. You ask whether Dr Skouta would have sat any
examinations on her arrival from Greece. Doctors who are nationals of
relevant European states and who possess a European primary medical
qualification (essentially, a first degree in medicine) are entitled to
registration in the UK, provided their fitness to practise is not
impaired. That entitlement arises under the framework that exists for the
mutual recognition of professional qualifications between member states of
the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland - the purpose being to
facilitate freedom of movement and employment.

At a European level, the framework in question is set out in Directive
2005/36 and, in the UK, the relevant provisions of that Directive were
transposed into UK law (in the case of the GMC) by way of amendment to the
Medical Act 1983.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding my response please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
