Dog fouling in Belfast

How many complaints have you received over the last year about dog fouling?

How many fines have been issued to dog owners and what has been the total sum of money charged?

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request that Belfast City
Council received on 11^th March 2012. I can confirm that the council holds
the information that you have requested. It has been decided that most of
the information below can be disclosed.

 

How many complaints have you received over the last year about dog
fouling?        

Answer -  From April 2011 to February 2012 we have received 988 complaints

    

How many fines have been issued to dog owners and what has been the total
sum of money charged?

Answer - 82 fixed penalties for £50 each

 

If you are dissatisfied with how the Council handled your request for
information, you have the right to request that the Council formally
review this decision. If you do wish to do so, please write to the Records
Manager, City Hall, Belfast, BT1 5GS.

 

Should you remain dissatisfied following the councils internal review, you
could seek an independent review from the Information Commissioner.
Requests for an independent review should be made in writing to: The
Information Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire,
SK9 5AF. However I would advise that the Information Commissioner has
indicated that a review will not be undertaken unless the Council has
first had an opportunity to re-consider its decision.

Warden Service on 15^th March 2012. I can confirm that the Council holds
the information you have requested and it has been decided that the

Question 1: How many complaints have you received over the last year about

Answer: From April 2011 to March 2012, 1081 complaints have been received
by Belfast

                  City Council in regard to dog fouling.

 

Question 2: How many fines have been issued to dog owners and what has
been the total

                    sum of the money charged?

Answer: From April 2011 to March 2012, 99 Fixed Penalty fines have been
issued in regard

                   to dog fouling, the total sum charged was £4,950.00.

 

If you are dissatisfied with how the Council handled your request for

I can confirm that the Council holds the information you have requested.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act and it has been decided that the information can be
disclosed and, accordingly, it is provided below. 

 

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 you requested the following
information:

 

1.       How many complaints have you received about dog fouling from
01.01.2005 to 01.09.2012, please give yearly figures.

 

2.       How many Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for the same period,
please give yearly figures.

 

3.       Please indicate when any campaigns about dog fouling were
undertaken by the Council?

 

I have arranged the Council’s response, below, to your request in the
order that you set it out in your e-mail. The Council holds the
information annually from 1^st April to 31^st March and I can advise as
follows:

 

1.       From 1^st April 2004 to 31^st March 2005, 581 complaints were
received

From 1^st April 2005 to 31^st March 2006, 833 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2006 to 31^st March 2007, 808 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2007 to 31^st March 2008, 795 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2008 to 31^st March 2009, 954 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2009 to 31^st March 2010, 1110 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2010 to 31^st March 2011, 1020 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2011 to 31^st March 2012, 1155 complaints were received

From 1^st April 2012 to 1^st September 2012, 426 complaints have been
received

 

2.       From 1^st April 2004 to 31^st March 2005, 73 fixed penalties were
issued

From 1^st April 2005 to 31^st March 2006, 234 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2006 to 31^st March 2007, 143 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2007 to 31^st March 2008, 98 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2008 to 31^st March 2009, 144 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2009 to 31^st March 2010, 77 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2010 to 231^st March 011, 144 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2011 to 31^st March 2012, 100 fixed penalties were issued

From 1^st April 2012 to 1^st September 2012, 59 fixed penalties have been
issued

 

 

 

3.       In May 2011 the “His Business is our Business” campaign was
launched and

in 2006 a  “Barks in the Parks” campaign was launched.
