Dear Mary
Thank you for your email requesting data pertaining to public and private
sector employees' contribution to GDP.
I am writing to confirm that the Office for National Statistics has now
completed its search for the information which you requested.
Request:
Regarding the following publication: [1]Annual Survey of Hours and
Earnings (ASHE) - Estimates of earnings covering four-digit occupation by
public and private sectors,
Do you hold information regarding estimated contribution to Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) from public sector salaries for 'employees' and private
sector salaries for 'employees'?
Response:
Thank you for your request.
Unfortunately the requested information is not available from the ASHE
survey however, within the National Accounts Blue Book we do publish
estimates of income by sector, as part of our compensation of employees
series. This can be broken down into wages and salaries.
Please see the following link to Table 1.7.2 of our National Accounts Blue
Book: [2]Blue Book Table 1.7.2.
The data you require can be calculated from the series provided within the
table. Using the sector information, this can be summed to the level
required for both the Wages and Salaries (D.11) and GDP (B.1g) series.
These can then be used to provide the percentage share.
If you have any questions regarding this data or require any further
assistance, please contact: [3][email address] and they will be
happy to assist.
