DNA Database response
Dear Sir or Madam,
Last year the European Court ruled against the Government's policy of retaining DNA samples for innocent people.
Jack Straw claimed in parliament that the UK has "an obligation to report initially to the Council of Ministers and the Council of Europe by March."
This deadline has passed and I can see no public statement from the MoJ.
Please can you therefore release the statement that you have sent to the Council of Europe.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Harding

The government did report to the CoM at its 17-19 March meeting. The government apparently dealt with the individual measures and provided information about how it intends to deal with the general measures. The CoM will consider this information at its June meeting. The Home Office also stated it would start a consultation on forensics with a section on the NDNAD.
