Distinction between COVID and SARS-COV-2

Ms Maxine Shaverin made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to Public Health England

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

We're waiting for Ms Maxine Shaverin to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Public Health England,

Clearly there are many arguments, discussions and claims regarding SARS-COV-2 and frequent reference to everything as being covid when it is not. However, at what point does someone contracting the SARS-COV-2 viral infection (we will forget whether or not they have tested positive and if that means they have actually contracted the virus) be classed as having the complications which can in a minority of people result in Covid?

In line with this, are you able to confirm if the data which the Govt regularly refer to and especially with regards to both deaths and alleged cases, are really deaths and alleged cases where SARS-COV-2 has been identified using the PCR test but not necessarily that that person has developed, or indeed died with Covid 19? Is it actually possible to obtain the numbers separately - those who test positive and those who indeed develop Covid?

Many thanks

Maxine Shaverin
