Discrenacy in immigration and asylum fees

The request was partially successful.

Dear Home Office

On 5th March you responded to an FOI request indicating that in the years 2011-14, total Home Office litigation expenditure on immigration and asylum cases was £131.27m. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/2...

You have also confirmed that Treasury Solicitors are your main providers of legal services.

However, information obtained from T-Sol (https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/f...) indicates that in the years 2011-14, they received £52.27m including VAT in immigration and asylum fees from the Home Office.

Could you please

1) confirm whether or not the £131.27m includes VAT and
2) explain where the Home Office has spent the balance of £74.05m, as it appears your main legal service provider is not the recipient of the majority of your expenditure.

Regards

Dear Home Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Home Office's handling of my FOI request 'Discrenacy in immigration and asylum fees'.

I asked for information on where the balance of £74.05m had been spent. Home Office's response simply suggests that this relates to payments made to third parties, commercial disputes, human rights cases "as well as other functions".

Home Office should have provided a complete breakdown of the recipient of these funds (thereby clarifying what the other functions are) and including the amount allocated to each.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/d...

Yours sincerely

BritCits
