FOI Requests, Y Cwmni Benthyciadau i Fyfyrwyr

Dear Pablo Van Schravendyk

We refer to your request dated 18th October 2019.

We are emailing to establish whether a refined request would be
acceptable.

We should be able to use some existing data to answer parts of your
request, but the data we have will only cover the 2015/16, 2016/17 and
2017/18 academic years and it will only be for 'new' agreements issued in
each particular academic year (any existing agreements continuing on a
'per year' basis are not factored in).

We would also like to seek clarification/your views on the following
points:

• you have requested data for UK domiciled students - we would only be
able to provide this for students funded through Student Finance England.

• you have requested data for  "Mental Health Mentoring providers".  Some
of the providers consider there to be two distinct types of mentoring
(autism and mental health), however we would not be able to split down to
this level. We record both under the collective descriptor "Specialist
Mentor".  Would you be happy to receive data for "Specialist Mentor"
support as a whole?
• regarding question 4, SLC does not undertake any auditing.  We do have
supplier lists, however we don't record specifically what support types
they provide. We could extract a list of providers that we've paid for
Specialist Mentor in each academic year, but this won't be 100% accurate
(it's possible not all of the providers have been paid and due to the data
source being from manually completed sources, some providers may be
recorded against mentor when they don't necessarily provide it).

We would be grateful if you could consider the above and advise if the
revisions are acceptable.

Yours sincerely

Dear FOI Requests/ Ms Chapman

Many thanks for your response asking if a refined request would be suitable. The short answer is yes to the following refinements:
1. The number of new agreements for the past 3 academic years.
2. My reference to UK domiciled students is quoted from SFE's eligibility criteria. So I am asking for data pertaining to UK students in receipt of DSA and funded for mental health mentoring - or as you have pointed out, 'specialist mentoring'.
3. Data for 'specialist mentoring' as a whole would be acceptable. I am surprised there is no separate data for AS mentoring and mental health mentoring, considering the criterion (professional training, registration and skills) is quite different for each role and these would not be interchangeable at the provider level (ie.A specialist AS Mentor would not necessarily be qualified to offer mental health mentoring without additional qualifications etc, and vice-versa).
4. A list of providers you've provided payment to for specialist mentoring is also acceptable, despite this not being 100% accurate.

Many thanks for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,

Pablo Van Schravendyk
