Disability and Tutorial policies, postgraduate student admission statistics

The request was successful.

Dear Trinity College, Cambridge,

I am writing you to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with my request, I outline my queries below. Please if you could provide the following information held by Trinity College:

1. how many postgraduate students were admitted to Trinity College in this academic year 2019/2020 and their breakdown of allocation to each Tutorial Side (A,B,C,D,E,F1,F2,G,H,J)

2. how many postgraduate students have Senior Tutor as their allocated Tutor in this calendar year 2019/2020

3. how many postgraduate students with a diagnosed and disclosed disability study at Trinity College in this academic year 2019/2020, and the breakdown of their allocation to different Tutorial Sides + Senior Tutor

4. how many staff members of Trinity College have a diagnosed disability and they disclosed such disability to Trinity College, as of today 7th May 2020

5. who makes decision about allocation of Tutors to students and on what grounds. I note p.19 of the White Book 2019/2020 outlining general practices when allocating a Tutor. I would like to know:
a. who is the specific person/people responsible for approving the specific designation of a Tutor when a postgraduate student enters/continues studying in College
b. I would like to know whether communication with the student takes place to assign a suitable Tutor, to facilitate ‘close interest in students’ academic progress and welfare’ of a Tutor that is listed in the White Book 2019/2020
c. I would like to know under what circumstances a change of Tutors can take place, whose responsibility it is to deal with such request, how this request should be dealt with and who makes the ultimate decision to grant/reject a request and under what grounds. This information is not listed in the White Book 2019/2020 and is not in the public domain

6. whether reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 are implemented when allocating a personal tutor to a student with diagnosed disability and the student disclosed such disability to Trinity College. This information is not in the public domain and no reference to disabled students is made in the White Book with respect to Tutor allocation or reasonable adjustments

7. whether Trinity College has any specific policy outlining the provision of reasonable adjustments to disabled students and staff under the Equality Act 2010, where can I find such a policy, who is in charge of implementing such policy and who reviews the best practices to ensure adherence to the Equality Act 2010. I note the Policy on Equal Opportunities that lists Senior Tutor as the designated person of contact when reporting discrimination and that Trinity College deems any acts of discrimination as unacceptable and not tolerated. However, this policy does not specify how Trinity College adheres to Equality Act 2010 with regard to providing reasonable adjustments

8. whether Trinity College has a disability specific adviser. I note Trinity College has a Fellow for Trinity Women, Fellow for LGBTQ+ and Fellow for Ethnic Diversity. However, I struggle to identify any specific and trained disability adviser allocated to aid disabled students and staff.

Please note that an inability on your part to supply information on any of the information, in whole or in part, requests would not retract the request for any other information, in whole or in part, requested.

If this request, in part or in whole, is deemed “vexatious” I request that an explanation of why each part was so deemed be supplied, and that those be parts be treated separately from requests of other information.

I would like to receive a confirmation of receipt of my request. Please if you could provide the above information in an electronic format. I look forward to hearing from you within 20 days outlined in the statutory limit.

Yours faithfully,

Silvia Hnatova
