5.3 What are the digital technologies your authority is planning to deploy in relation to smart cities in the next 1-3 years?

GovWiFi – managed by PSBA/Cabinet Office

Blaenau Gwent has footfall counters installed within each of the town
centres.  We are also intending to install further footfall counters to
provide more detail using LORAWAN technology

 

3.4          Do you currently require a Wi-Fi survey to improve service
performance?

No

 

4.            Cabling: CAT5 / CAT5e / CAT6 / Fibre

 

4.1          Who is your current contractor for the above?

None at present, we have not had need for wiring in the past 12 months.

 

4.2          What is your chosen framework to tender for Cabling projects?

We use a variety of frameworks including Crown Commercial Services and
National Procurement Service (Wales).

 

4.3          Do you have any forthcoming cabling tenders or projects in
2021/22?

Not at present, we are currently collating our 2021/22 procurement work
programme

 

 

5.            Smart Cities: Next Generation Customer experience

 

5.1          IoT – Are you implementing/planning on any of the following:
Interactive Kiosks, Digital Signage, Cashless parking, Machine to Machine
Telemetry, Remote Machine Monitoring

We are exploring digital signage within town centres.  Cashless parking is
not used because Blaenau Gwent does not currently charge a fee for using
publically owned car parks.

 

5.2          5G/ SD WAN/ Wireless WAN

The Council is part of a 5G project funded through the UK Government,
Department for Culture Media and Sport.  Cocore 5G Unlocked is a
collaborative project that will see Ebbw Vale benefit from 5G coverage and
this will be used to demonstrate benefits of 5G technology through a
number of use cases.  1. Transport - Smart Buses, Bus Stops, Car Parking
and 2. Education – immersive classroom experience.

 

5.3          What are the digital technologies your authority is planning
to deploy in relation to smart cities in the next 1-3 years?

The Council is planning to deploy further LORAWAN technology over the next
1- 3 years.

 

5.4          Mobility – Fleet/Vehicle & Pop-up connectivity – Do you
currently use remote digital connectivity for your fleets what contracts

Vehicle tracking is currently in place

 

5.5          If not to above, are you planning to use in future? Please

As part of our trials of LORAWAN technology we will be looking across the
Council to see how this can support how we deliver public services.

 

5.6          COVID-19 – what plans from an IT perspective do you have for
return to work – i.e. what proportion of the work force do you think will
return to the office.

The Council is moving to alternative agile working model comprising of
home working, hybrid and office based positions, we are currently scoping
to determine %’s
