Dear Mr Elliot,

Thank you for the email in which you requested information under the Freedom of Information Act. Please find responses to your questions as follows:-

1. Are there areas of land owned or controlled by the you which have Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica) growing upon it. Please could you identify the location of areas of land where Japanese Knotweed is present.

Yes, there are a number of areas of land across the Metro network in which Japanese Knotweed is present. At present I don't have exact locations of these but I have asked for these to be provided and will forward them on as soon as I receive them.

2. If Japanese Knotweed is present on your land, please can you describe the management you are taking to prevent its spread on to neighbouring land.

Nexus has engaged an approved contractor whom inspects and treats the Japanese Knotweed sites. The normal process is for 2 x treatments per year, once at the start of the growing seasons, and once at the end. Treatment has already been completed this year.

Michael

Dear Freedom Info,

Thanks for your response. From your reply there is only limited information on question 1 - I look forward to receiving a more detailed response when you have the additional information you mention.

As for question 2, there are areas of Japanese Knotweed on Nexus land that have not been treated this year. It seems unlikely at time of writing (early June 2019) that plants would have received two treatments already, because it is still growing strongly. But as you've not specified what treatment has been used (chemical? biological? removal?) it is hard to be sure. You mention contractors have completed these treatments, but it seems unlikely you would not be able to supply further details if this were the case.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Elliot

Dear Mr Elliot,

Firstly, apologies for the delay in responding to this Freedom of Information request. I have been seeking clarifications to the questions you asked.

There was chemical treatment carried out this year between 29 April 2019 and 3 May 2019. There will be a further treatment between 2 September 2019 and 6 September 2019.

In addition to this, please find attached the information we hold on Japanese Knotweed on the Metro system.

Tab 1 on the attached document shows active sites. Tab2 shows sites that have been treated previously and have been inspected and show no signs of Japanese Knotweed at the last inspection.

Regards
Michael
