Dear Mr Davis

Freedom of Information Request 2011 046

Thank you for your recent request that was submitted under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 which was received into this office on the. 4
November 2011.

.

For ease I have broken down your request into two questions, the
information that you are seeking is in relation to the following:

1.       In light of the recent news regarding changes to your degree
validation schemes, please could you send me a list of degrees that you
currently validate,

2.       along with whether it has been decided that validation of the
course will at some point end, and if it has been decided, the date at
which the validation will end.

Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) places two duties
on public authorities. Unless exemptions apply, the first duty at, Section
1(1) (a), is to confirm or deny whether the information specified in a
request is held. The second duty at, Section1 (1) (b), is to disclose
information that has been confirmed as being held.

Under the provisions of those sections of FOIA, I can confirm that
information you requested is held by the University of Wales. However we
are unable to comply with your request to supply that information for
question 1 as this is covered by the exemption allowed under Section 21,
information reasonably accessible by other means.

If you visit our website you will be able to view all of our centres and
the schemes that we currently validate.

As for question 2 we must make a formal refusal under the exemption
available to us in Section 43 of the Act, prejudice to commercial
interests. The University is engaged in a commercial relationship with its
collaborative centres and the disclosure of any discussions which may be
taking place would be likely to prejudice the commercial interests of the
collaborative centre in that it would adversely affect their ability to
recruit students. The Information Commissioner has already ruled in a
similar case in favour of the University’s position that disclosure in
these sorts of circumstances are not in the public interest. Please refer
to the link provided below.

Decision Notice from the Information Commissioner (FS50344862
[1]http://www.ico.gov.uk/~/media/documents/...)
)

Should a date be agreed with a collaborative centre for the termination of
their relationship with the University, a note to this effect is placed on
the University’s web site on the page for the relevant centre and
therefore the information would then be available to you by other means.

I believe this to be a full and complete response to your enquiry under
the Act but please feel free to come back to me for clarification or
further information.

If you are unhappy at the way your enquiry has been handled you may write
to the Vice Chancellor, University Registry, King Edward VII Ave, CARDIFF
CF10 3NS.

Failing that, you may apply to the Information Commissioner's Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF

Yours sincerely
