Dear R Tyrrell,

I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request received
on 5 December 2016 in which you asked a number of questions  regarding our
degree verifications contract.

 1. Our contract is on a rolling basis subject to annual reviews.

 2. The current agreement expires on 18 January 2017.

 3. The next review is likely to take place shortly before that date.

 4. Goldsmiths considers the requested contact details to be exempt from
disclosure under section 43(2) of the FOI Act. Section 43(2) states;

(2) Information is exempt information if its disclosure under this Act
would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of any
person (including the public authority holding it)

Our experience is that disclosure of the type of information that you
request results in our staff being subject to unhelpful and unwanted
marketing. This is a drain on our resources and hampers our ability to
carry out our business.

Section 43(2) is a qualified exemption. This means we are required to
consider whether it is in the public interest to apply the exemption.

While we recognise that there may be some public interest in knowing which
staff member is responsible for a particular contract, we consider that it
is outweighed by the public interest in us not diverting resources away
from the provision of education to unproductive tasks.

I hope this response satisfies your Freedom of Information request.
However, if you are dissatisfied, you may ask for it to be reviewed by
either contacting us by email: [Goldsmiths, University of London request email] or by writing to:

right to appeal to the Information Commissioner who can be contacted at
