Dear Transport NI,

By way of a FOI request I would be grateful if you could provide the most current extant lists of the following within the Borough.

(1) Roadways understood to be available for Vehicular Access.

(2) Publicly accessible Bridleways.

(3) Publicly adopted parks, recreation spaces and beaches which do not currently preclude access to members of the public on horseback.

(4) Publicly adopted parks, recreation spaces and beaches which do currently preclude access to members of the public on horseback.

(4)(b) Pursuant to point four please provide copy of the by-laws utilised to enact such preclusions.

Yours faithfully,

J.C.M. Hughes

DfI Information Management Unit, DfI Roads

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your request for information.

I note that you mention "extant lists... within the Borough".

This seems to suggest that much of your request may be more appropriately handled by Councils.

DfI Roads is the roads authority for Northern Ireland, with responsibility for the public road network (c. 25,000 km), c. 9,700 km of footways, etc., this public road network would be understood to be available for vehicular access.

The Department has no role in relation to bridleways, recreation spaces, parks or beaches.

The only information that we are likely to hold would be in relation to q1.

Do you still want the Department to process your information request?

Thank you.

Dear Hugh Murnaghan,

Apologies I did mean to amend Borough to Northern Ireland.

Hugh don't worry about processing this any further. I will have to do a bit more research.

If you agree I will mark this partially successful?

Yours Aye ,

J.C.M. Hughes

DfI Information Management Unit, DfI Roads

If it was me, I might suggest not marking it as partially successful, I'm not sure of the processes on the Whatdotheyknow site, but is there one for refining a request?

If you are happy with partially successful, that would be fine.

You may wish to come back to the Department about aspects of the public road network - particularly if you have been able to identify the location of specific bridleways.

We could provide something (I believe) in response to Q1, but you would end up with a huge list of road names, and that is unlikely to be of much use.

Ideally, if you can refine your request, for example to particular locations, we would be able to provide you with some meaningful information.

Thank you.
