Dear Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (Northern Ireland),

To the best of your knowledge, how many blood patch patients performed by Dr Watt are still living?

Thank you for your email to Belfast Trust Public Liaison Service. Due to
the significant impact of the Coronavirus situation, Trust staff are
working to prioritise their duties as front line health and social care
workers and regrettably there may be a delay in responding to your email
at this time. Please note however, that any urgent queries will be
forwarded to the relevant service for their attention. Thank you for your
understanding and patience at this difficult time.

Dear Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (Northern Ireland),

Thank you for your response to this FOI which can be found here - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/e...

However, this response is not satisfactory, and I would like to request an internal review.

Question: To the best of your knowledge, how many blood patch patients performed by Dr. Watt are still living?

RESPONSE: The Belfast Trust is not aware of any patients who have died as a result of having an epidural blood patch procedure.

Complaint: You have answered a question that wasn't asked. I did not ask the Trust's opinion on how many patients have died following a blood patch, which wouldn't be known unless there were inquests into the deaths. I'm asking, to the best of your knowledge, how many patients are still alive? This information should be freely available, as living patients were invited to attend a recall appointment.

Yours faithfully,

Lyndsay Eccleston

Thank you for your response. Can you confirm what records are you referring to? Which system did you use to check the status of each of those 159 patients?

Yours sincerely,

Dear Lyndsay

I can confirm the patient records used to identify any deceased patients who had previously had a blood patch were the Belfast Trust Patient Administration System (PAS) and the Northern Ireland Electronic Care Record (NIECR). Within these two systems it is clearly identified if a patient is deceased.

Kind regards
Arlene
