Dear Stephen,

Further to your request of 01, September 2021, which we have treated as a
Freedom of Information request, please find below our response to the
information that you requested.

Query:

Please supply me with data relating to fires on balconies on residential
buildings in your area, as follows;

o How many fires involving balconies occurred between 1st August 2020
and 31st July 2021?
o In the same period, how many building fires occurred where balconies
where found to have contributed to the external spread of the fire?
o Please provide data on the causes of any fires that started on
balconies (ie; barbecue, discarded cigarette, electrical appliance
fault, etc) and please provide the number of occurrences for each
cause.

Response:

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue do not record “balcony” or “balconies”
as a standard field within our system.  As a result of a full search of
the free text, we do not have any fires recorded between 1st August 2020
and 31st July 2021 where balcony has been recorded in the free text for
the fire start location

I trust this answers your queries, however, if you are unhappy with the
service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a
complaint or request a review of the decision, you should write to the
Information Management Team, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service,
Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre, Hulse Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire
