Dear Cleveland Fire Brigade,

Please supply me with data relating to fires on balconies on residential buildings in your area, as follows;

· How many fires involving balconies occurred between 1st August 2020 and 31st July 2021?

· In the same period, how many building fires occurred where balconies where found to have contributed to the external spread of the fire?

· Please provide data on the causes of any fires that started on balconies (ie; barbecue, discarded cigarette, electrical appliance fault, etc) and please provide the number of occurrences for each cause.

I am writing further to your email of 08 September 2021 where you
requested the following information:

 

Please supply me with data relating to fires on balconies on residential
buildings in your area, as follows;

 

· How many fires involving balconies occurred between 1st August 2020 and
31st July 2021?

 

· In the same period, how many building fires occurred where balconies
where found to have contributed to the external spread of the fire?

 

· Please provide data on the causes of any fires that started on balconies
(ie; barbecue, discarded cigarette, electrical appliance fault, etc) and
please provide the number of occurrences for each cause.

 

Please see the attached spreadsheet, there has been one incident
identified.  Please note as balcony is not a property type, cause type, or
reason for spread type we can only identify this information through a
search of free text.

 

 

You have the right to seek a review of this decision and a request should
be made to the Senior Head of Assets for this purpose. The request should
be in writing with the grounds for a review and sent to the Senior Head of

Reviews should be made within 40 working days of our response to your
request being issued.  Any requests for review received outside of the 40
working days will be refused.  Please note this is in line with the
Information Commissioner’s own working practices.

 

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may appeal
directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a decision. 
Generally, The ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
complaints procedure provided by Cleveland Fire Authority.  The ICO can be
