Customer Contact Centre, The Financial Conduct Authority

Dear Michael,

Thanks for your email to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). which was
forwarded onto us from our Freedom of Information team (FOI). This is
because we’re the most appropriate department to respond.

I understand you’ve concerns on how corporations use unique reference
numbers as a bank account number and asked under FOI at what point in time
did these corporations get consent to securitisation of your personal
information. So, I can appreciate you contacting us.

Our role

The Financial Conduct Authority is the conduct regulator for 58,000
financial services firms and financial markets in the UK and the
prudential regulator for over 18,000 of those firms.

What we do

Financial markets need to be honest, fair and effective so that consumers
get a fair deal. We aim to make markets work well – for individuals, for
businesses.

Our Remit

We're responsible for authorising firms offering financial services and
products to consumers in the UK. For example, a firm promoting, managing
and advising on investments would have to comply with our rules. The firms
we authorise can be found on our [1]Financial Services Register (FS
Register).

We (FCA) do not allocate bank sort codes and would not to obtain the
information through our FOI team.

This would fall outside out of the FCA remit

BACS

[2]Bankers Automated Clearing Services (previously known as) is the
organisation with responsibility for the schemes behind the clearing and
settling of UK automated payments methods Direct Debit and Bans Direct
Credit, as well as the provision of managed services for third parties. .

I guide you to speak to them directly to get further guidance regarding
this matter.

Telephone: 0370 165 0018

I’d like to thank you once again for taking the time to contact us and
hope this information has been of use.
