The request was successful.

Dear Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service,

I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Please send me:

2) If available, the region where the call-outs from request 1 were made.

I would like the above information to be provided to me as electronic copies.

If this request is too wide or unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me as I understand that under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters. If any of this information is already in the public domain, please can you direct me to it, with page references and URLs if necessary.

If the release of any of this information is prohibited on the grounds of breach of confidence, I ask that you supply me with copies of the confidentiality agreement and remind you that information should not be treated as confidential if such an agreement has not been signed.

FOI requests, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service

1 Attachment

Dear Tom Cox,

Thank you for your request for information to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) dated 12 October 2021.

We apologise for any delay in our response. The Information Commissioner recognises that during the Covid pandemic there may be times when our staff have to prioritise other work to keep services running during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your request for information was handled under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

I confirm we hold the information you asked for.

You asked for:

1. The number of rescue call-outs where a domestic cat has been stuck or trapped in a tree over the last 5 years

2. If available, the region where the call-outs from request 1 were made.

Please find the information you’ve asked for in the attached spreadsheet.
Under our duty to advise and assist (FOIA s16), in case of interest, here’s part of a previous NFRS FOIA response reply about animal rescues:
Q: Some people may say that some of the instances responded to were not necessary for Fire and Rescue to respond and could have been solved without the service. Is there anyway calls for animal rescue are screened to see if they warrant a response?
NFRS will usually respond if an animal can’t free itself and is trapped or stuck fast. But, for example, a cat stuck in a tree, our usual advice is to put food down, or to contact the RSPCA if it’s been up the tree more than 24 hours.
If the RSPCA contact us asking for assistance, we will attend. Also, for any animal rescues we attend, we contact the RSPCA if they’re not already involved. For incidents involving large animals we also ask the animal owner to contact their vet.
For some animal rescue incidents, if we assess a level of risk to the public in attempting their own rescue, we will attend.

I hope this information is useful for you.

If you’re unhappy with the way your request for information has been handled, you can use the NFRS FOI complaints process. If you need assistance with this, please contact us.

Because of the current situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) it's possible we'll take longer than usual to reply to complaints about supply of information under Freedom of Information or Environment Information Regulations. The Information Commissioner recognises that longer time may be needed when NFRS staff have to prioritise other work to keep services running during the COVID-19 pandemic.
