Data on balcony fires, in terms of quantity and causes

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service,

Please supply me with data relating to fires on balconies on residential buildings in your area, as follows;

· How many balcony fires occurred in the prior three years (2017 to 2020)? Please provide gross total and also breakdown by year.

· How many building fires occurred where balconies contributed to the external spread of the fire?

· The ratio breakdown of identified/suspected causes of these balcony fires (ie; barbecue, discarded cigarette, etc).

Yours faithfully,

Stephen Cole

Freedom of Information, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service

Dear Stephen

Just to clarify our response below where we stated that we have no records of any fires occurring on balconies. This is due to the fact that we do not record a specific category for the reporting of fires occurring on balconies and therefore are unable to provide confirmation of any incidents involving balconies.

Dear Freedom of Information,

Thanks, but are you able to do free text search of your database for "balcony" and "balconies"?

Yours sincerely,
