Dear Stephen Cole

Freedom of Information Request

I am writing further to your email of 11 August 2020 where you requested
the following information:

• How many balcony fires occurred in the prior three years (2017 to 2020)?
Please provide gross total and also breakdown by year.

• How many building fires occurred where balconies contributed to the
external spread of the fire?

• The ratio breakdown of identified/suspected causes of these balcony
fires (ie; barbecue, discarded cigarette, etc).

Cleveland Fire Brigade have not found any balcony fires in the timescale
requested.  There is also not a specific incident classification and would
be classed as a building fire.

For information a fires report for all dwelling and other residential
properties using the period 01 January 2017 to 31 July 2020.  All free
text boxes were searched looking for "balcony".  A search was then
conducted of the incident logs looking for the keyword "balcony".  No
fires were identified.

You have the right to seek a review of this decision and a request should
be made to the Senior Head of Assets for this purpose. The request should
be in writing with the grounds for a review and sent to the Senior Head of
Assets, at the address below or email [1][Cleveland Fire Brigade request email]

Reviews should be made within 40 working days of our response to your
request being issued.  Any requests for review received outside of the 40
working days will be refused.  Please note this is in line with the
Information Commissioner’s own working practices.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may appeal
directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a decision.
Generally, The ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
