Crypto-currency adverts

Merseytravel did not have the information requested.

Dear Merseytravel,

I'd like to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for information that I believe you hold and to which I believe I am entitled.

I'm seeking the following:-

- The number of adverts placed by companies advertising crypto-currency, or crypto-currency trading, on your services during each quarter of each year since 2017. This should include space purchased by any organisation promoting the use, purchase, or trade of crypto-currencies.

- The value of advert space bought by these companies on your services during each quarter of each year since 2017. Please apply the same criteria as for the first question.

I look forward to a response within 20 working days. Please let me know if I can adjust the request in any way in order to make it easier to comply with.

Yours faithfully,

Rob Davies

Dear Mr Davies

Thank you for your recent request made under the Freedom of Information
Act.

By way of background, Merseytravel does not directly provide bus or rail
services; all bus services, including subsidised routes, are run by
indepdendent bus operators and the Merseyrail network is provided by
Merseyrail Electics Ltd., a separate organisation to Merseytravel.

The region’s bus stops are managed by Clear Channel UK, who are free to
run adverts independently of Merseytravel provided they abide by the
Advertising Standards Authority Code of Practice and do not display
adverts that meet the following criteria

(a)            party political advertising;

(b)            religious advertising;

(c)            tobacco advertising; or

(d)            advertising that makes adverse comment about the Executive
or the tunnels scheme in the Area.

We therefore do not hold any recorded information for these areas.

The only service that we do directly provide are the Mersey Ferries, who
have not run any crypto-currency adverts.

You are welcome to contact Merseyrail and the bus operators directly, but
as they are private companies they are not subject to the Freedom of
Information Act and any information they provide would be on a voluntary
basis.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review, which should be addressed to:

                Mrs Julie Watling

Legal, Democratic Services & Procurement Manager

                Merseytravel

                PO Box 1976

                Liverpool

                L69 3HN

                [1][email address]

If you are not content with the result of your internal review, you also
have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner, whose address
is

                The Information Commissioner’s Office,

                Wycliffe House,

                Water Lane,

                Wilmslow,
