Dear University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust,

Does UHCW supply humidification equipment to patients receiving CPAP treatment for obstructive airways problems?

Is there a policy on this and can UHCW give me a copy?

Are all patients entitled to humidification equipment or just some? Who gets such equipment?

Does UHCW supply the water chambers which hold the water that humidifies incoming air?

How many such water chambers have been supplied to patients in the last two years?

Does UHCW supply the heated climate tube/ heated hose which carries the humidified and warmed air to the patient?

How many such heated climate tubes/ heated hoses have been supplied to patients in the last two years?

Yours faithfully,

Rob Hardiman

Dear Requester

We write further to your request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act received 23rd July 2022.  We have set out your request,
together with our response below.

Does UHCW supply humidification equipment to patients receiving CPAP
treatment for obstructive airways problems? Yes.

Is there a policy on this and can UHCW give me a copy? No, the decision to
issue humidification will be made by the sleep team based on individual
needs.

Are all patients entitled to humidification equipment or just some? Who
gets such equipment?

All patients are entitled to humidification if their sleep is being
disturbed specifically by dryness. The patient is also required to meet
certain criteria of CPAP compliance such as a minimal usage of CPAP of
over 4 hours a night and their mask is showing a minimal leak of less than
24L/min. This ensures the effectiveness of the humidification device.

Does UHCW supply the water chambers which hold the water that humidifies
incoming air? Yes

How many such water chambers have been supplied to patients in the last
two years? In 2021 we issued 244 water chambers to patients either as a
new device or a replacement.

Does UHCW supply the heated climate tube/ heated hose which carries the
humidified and warmed air to the patient? No

How many such heated climate tubes/ heated hoses have been supplied to
patients in the last two years? 0

As we have provided the information that we do hold your request is now
closed.  We trust that this is satisfactory but if you are dissatisfied
with the way that it has been handled you have the right to ask for an
