Dear Ulster University,

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please could you provide me with the number of students who have accessed counselling services provided by the university for each of the past three academic years (2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17).

If possible, please provide a breakdown by the type of issue the students are seeking help for.

Further to your FOI request, reference no. FOIA/17/188, please see
response below from Ulster University. 

 

Please accept my apologies for the delay in issuing the response to you. 
Your request was unfortunately overlooked due to several issues including
an oversight by a member of staff which was compounded by a further error
of assigning your request an incorrect reference number.  This resulted in
your request being marked as completed when in fact a response had not
been issued to you. 

 

The University is now in a position to provide the figures below showing
the number of students who accessed counselling services at Ulster
University during each academic year from 2014/15 to 2016/17.

The presenting issues included the following categories: work/life
balance, addictions, suicide ideation, academic issues, marital/family
problems, personal trauma, work trauma and concerns relating to financial,
health and work/career issues.

 

We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to you as a result of our
failure to respond to you in a timely manner.  If you require any further

If you are unhappy with how the University has dealt with your request you
may raise the matter under the University's internal review process for
FOI requests. Please submit written details of your appeal to Mr Eamon

undertake to issue a decision on an appeal within 20 working days of
receipt.
