Dear Belfast City Council,

Since the local council elections in May 2019 until 3rd February 2020, please provide the following information if available:
• How many individual flights (by individual, I mean one way rather than return - so a trip to Heathrow and back would be 2 flights) taken by each individual councillor, broken down by councillor (and ideally grouped by party)?
• How many councillors have claimed “mileage allowance” at the cycling rate? Please provide the total expense claimed for cycle rate per councillor
• How many councillors have claimed public transport reimbursement? Please list total amounts per councillor who has made a claim
• Please give a breakdown of mileage claims per councillor showing total miles claimed and total reimbursement?

Yours faithfully,

Russell Hobbs

Dear Belfast City Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Belfast City Council's handling of my FOI request 'Councillor expenses since May 2019'.

As per my FOI request I note that Belfast Council has decided that information relating to Councillor mileage claims should not be published as it "will be published at a future date and allow for informed debate".

Given that Belfast City Council are following an agenda to support "sustainable transport", surely this decision flies in the face of that agenda? Therefore, I request that Councillor mileage claims are published immediately.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/c...

Yours faithfully,

Russell Hobbs

FOI, Belfast City Council

Dear Mr Hobbs

I refer to your email of 21 February 2020 requesting the Council to
undertake an internal review of  one part of its response to the freedom
of information request you submitted in your email of 3 February 2020.

Specifically, you requested that the Council review its response to your
request for a breakdown of mileage claims per councillor showing total
miles claimed and total reimbursement.

The Council had hoped that the review you requested could be completed by
Monday 23 March 2020.  Unfortunately this will not be possible due to the
revised arrangements the Council has had to put in place to deal with the
COVID 19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.  You will, however, receive a response as
soon as possible.  I apologise for the delay, but it is unavoidable in
these unprecedented and difficult circumstances.

I hope that you will understand the Council’s position.  Should you be
dissatisfied with the Council’s handling of this matter, you can complain
to the Information Commissioner, by writing to: The Information
Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
