Council resident service charges related to Spurs stadium and Events

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear Haringey Borough Council,

Cllr Joe Ejiofor was quoted in Tottenham Community Press, 2nd April 2019, as saying,
“There is currently no agreement about who foots the bill for cleaning up post-match. The reality is that even in the smaller [Spurs] stadium, it cost us thousands of pounds to clean the council estates post-match. That money was eventually being charged to Haringey’s social housing tenants. We don’t believe that that is fair.”

ONE: Please state the amounts which were service charged to Haringey council tenant and leasehold service charges arising from post Spurs match clean-ups, and also from clean-ups arising from construction of the new stadium, and related externalities such as mess caused by workers on the Stadium project, in each of the last four financial years.

TWO: Are Spurs event related costs still being paid for by council tenant and leasehold service charges? If so, please give estimated amounts for the current year.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Burnham

Dear Mr Burnham,

Thank you for your email dated 11 October 2019

The information requested is below/attached.

* ONE:  Please state the amounts which were service charged to Haringey
council tenant and leasehold service charges arising from post Spurs
match clean-ups, and also from clean-ups arising from construction of
the new stadium, and related externalities such as mess caused by
workers on the Stadium project, in each of the last four financial
years.

The cost of cleaning up after Spurs matches for the past four years was as
follows:

15/16 £11,383.64
16/17 £11,611.00
17/18 £11,843.00
18/19 £12,080.41

Leaseholders were not charged any of the cleaning costs as part of their
service charge in any of the four years in question. Tenants who pay
street sweeping service charge were charged 2p per week for each of the
four years in question.

The additional cost, if any, of cleaning mess caused by workers on the
stadium is not measured, so we are unable to provide any costs for this.

* TWO: Are Spurs event related costs still being paid for by council
tenant and leasehold service charges? If so, please give estimated
amounts for the current year.

The actual service charge for 2019/20 has not yet been calculated, so we
are unable to provide figures for this.
