FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST

I am responding to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
(FOI Act) for information held by the Council, which we received on 12
December. You requested the following:

‘Please provide summary costs of clean up operation by the borough or its
contractors for the Notting Hill Carnival.

Include breakdown of costs wherever possible - eg per day, number of
operatives, number of vehicles, management costs, any other details.

Please provide full information for the period 1980-2016 inclusive, or
everything that is available between these dates.’

Following a comprehensive search of our records, I am able to provide the
following:

The clear up operation following the Notting Hill Carnival falls within
the Royal Borough's contract for recycling, waste collection, street
cleaning and related services.  The estimated cost of undertaking the
operation in 2016 was £160,000.

The specification for this operation is based on output, i.e. returning
the streets to the required standard by the end of the week following the
event.  The Council does not specify the numbers of staff, vehicles, etc.
to be used by the contractor in completing this task and a breakdown
cannot be supplied, therefore.

The clear up costs since the beginning of the current contract in 2005
have been as follows:

2005           £132,612

2006           £137,440

2007           £141,147

2008           £151,699

2009           £148,529

2010           £149,989

2011           £152,303

2012           £152,775

2013           £152,717

2014           £158,199

2015           £158,158

Please note that information concerning costs before 2005 is unavailable.
