Cost of running 'Bikesafe' courses

The request was partially successful.

Dear Metropolitan Police Service (MPS),

In view of the vast amounts of money attributed to operational costs, training and the kitchen sink on this FOI request https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/j... can you please tell me how much it costs for a trained police motorcyclist being paid wages, with all the money invested in his training, plus use of motorcycle, garage costs, operational costs, and everything else, to spend the day 'advising' [not 'instructing'] members of the public who contribute a maximum of £45 for the Bikesafe courses?

Yours faithfully,

Paul Chapman

Metropolitan Police Service (MPS)

EXTENT OF SEARCHES TO LOCATE INFORMATION

To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted
at MPS Finance Services - Finance Business Partnering.

RESULT OF SEARCHES

The searches located information relevant to your request.

DECISION

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.

The Motorcycle Tasking Team consists of 13 officers.  This unit is 100%
funded by Transport for London.  These officers are Traffic officers and
as part of their general road traffic law enforcement duties, provide road
safety and awareness courses such as Bikesafe.  The average daily cost of
an officer within this unit is £342 and includes salary costs, Bikesafe
training and overheads.  On average one officer trains two members of the
public on the Bikesafe course and therefore the opportunity cost of
providing the course is £172 to one individual.

The Metropolitan Police Service does not receive the course fee of £45.

The information above does not include the cost of training a Traffic
officer.  Traffic officers undergo a minimum of 6 weeks training,
estimated at approximately £9,500.  Officers are required to be reassessed
every five years with respect to driving courses.

Dear Metropolitan Police Service (MPS),

Thanks for that information.

However, in light of the supposed £6m costs of the three police officers on rotation outside the Ecuadorian Embassy, and the reasons given in the above mentioned FOI request, surely these officers' costs are incomplete?

Surely there is a contribution towards all the backroom staff and support workers, radio transmission equipment, etc etc?

Please use the same formula to calculate this cost as was used in the previous request - we like consistency :)

Yours faithfully,

Paul Chapman
