Subject: Freedom of Information request - Coroners

Dear Mr Cross,

Thank you for your message dated 31 August. Because coroners' contact
details are in the public domain we have treated your request outside the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Please find attached a list of names and addresses for HM Coroners in
England and Wales. This does not include telephone numbers or e-mail
addresses since some of these are private.
Details of the Northern Ireland Coroner Service can be found online via
this link: [2]http://www.courtsni.gov.uk/en-GB/Service... .
Scotland has no coroner service; the Procurator Fiscal service looks into
sudden deaths there.

I hope this will be helpful.

Yours sincerely,

Barrie Thurlow

Dear Mr Cross,

Thank you for this. As I handled your first request informally (because we occasionally provide a list of coroner names and addresses to enquirers), if you agree I will handle your message as a new request under the Freedom of Information Act. If so, please treat this message as the acknowledgement.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr Thurlow,
I would like to ask for an internal review of the way my request was handled. I wish to raise the following points:

(a) I do not accept that a public official providing an email address to a Government Department for the purposes of official correspondence has a reasonable expectation of privacy with respect to that email address.

(b) A Coroner ought to keep his/her private email correspondence as separate as possible from his/her official correspondence and that would include having a separate official email account.

(c) You did not specify which coroner's email addresses were withheld under which exemptions.

(d) the ICO's Lines to Take document LTT151 states that "... In this case the public authority has to be reasonably specific to ensure it is found without difficulty and not hidden in a mass of other information." Therefore you should provide me with the list I have requested rather than suggesting I conduct multiple searches of a number of websites.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Cross

Dear Ministry of Justice,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Ministry of Justice's handling of my FOI request 'Coroners'.

I wish to raise the following points:
