Control Measures for European Moles (Talpa europaea)
Dear West Berkshire Council,
I am a university student studying the effects of urbanisation on the European Mole.
Please let me know for the sake of an environmental study whether any efforts are made by the council to control populations of European Moles in Tilehurst, Purley, Calcot and the other areas now connected to Reading's urban sprawl.
Please let me know if they had been carried out in the past since the 1960s and when they stopped if this is the case.
Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir/ Madam,
Request for information: Control Measures for European Moles
Please see below the Council’s response to your request for information.
You have asked;
Please let me know for the sake of an environmental study whether any
efforts are made by the council to control populations of European Moles
in Tilehurst, Purley, Calcot and the other areas now connected to
Reading's urban sprawl.
Please let me know if they had been carried out in the past since the
1960s and when they stopped if this is the case.
Please note, the Council only holds records dating back 18 years
therefore, we cannot provide information for the years predating 2000.
West Berkshire Council have treated moles 4 times, since 2000, on football
pitches at Linear Park in Calcot and twice to land in Northcroft in
Newbury.
This was due to holes being created, which were a health and safety hazard
to the players.
If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you may ask
for an internal review. You should contact The FoI Reviewing Officer,
Strategic Support, Council Offices, Market Street, Newbury RG14 5LD, email
