Cabinet Office Nid oedd gan y wybodaeth y gofynnwyd amdani.

Dear Cabinet Office,

Recently disclosed official papers by the Cabinet Office relating to advice given former Prime Minister Gordon Brown in setting up an Iraq Inquiry contain a memo written by Ben Lyon (F&DP Secretary) to former Cabinet Secretary, Gus O'Donnell dated 14 May 2009.

This paper contains recommendations for a possible agenda for a meeting between select senior civil servants over issues in the setting up of an Inquiry.

Paragraph 2 of the section marked 'Background' refers to requests for the convening of a Permanent Secretaries meeting 'to discuss options for an Inquiry'.

Under the terms of the FoI Act 2000, I request;

a) confirmation of whether, and when, such a meeting took place and whether it was hosted by the Cabinet Office, and;
b) disclosure of any agenda and minutes recorded for this meeting.

Yours faithfully,

christopher lamb

Dear FOI Team Mailbox,

On 11 January 2017, you replied to this request;

'I can confirm that the Cabinet Office holds information relevant to your request but I
must advise you that I must extend the time limit for responding to your request.'

Now, you state that you do not hold information relevant to this request.

I ask for an internal review in which you, firstly, explain this discrepancy; that is, how, one moment, you have information relevant to the request and, the next, you do not. I also ask for an answer to the first part of my request, which asked for confirmation that a Permanent Secretaries' meeting took place (as proposed) and, if so, the date it took place. This was not addressed in your reply.

I must say that this is the second freedom of information request I have made relating to disclosures that the Cabinet Office itself made with respect to official advice given Gordon Brown for the setting up of the Iraq Inquiry. I find it somewhat incredulous that the Cabinet Office does not hold further information, in either case, about meetings proposed or matters directly referred to, and arising out of, these Cabinet Office papers!

Yours sincerely,

christopher lamb
