Dear Ms Tomkins

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) 2000, relating to suicide rates in Ashford. I am
pleased to provide the attached information in answer to your request.

The information contains the numbers of deaths from suicide and
undetermined causes for residents of Ashford Borough Council for each year
from 2000-2012. You will note that data has been suppressed for the years
2004 and 2008 and a breakdown by gender has also been excluded. It is
believed that where there were less than five events then the deceased's
identity might be revealed by deductive disclosure and that this might
lead to unnecessary distress for friends and relative of the deceased as
well as constitute a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998. Therefore,
this information is exempt from disclosure under section 40 of the Freedom
of Information Act 2000 on the grounds that it is personal information.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link
[1]http://www.kent.gov.uk/your_council/have...
on our website. Please quote reference FOI/13/0727.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner’s website [2]http://www.ico.org.uk/complaints
