Co-option procedure for parish/town councillors

Leeds City Council did not have the information requested.

Denise Podlewska

Dear Leeds City Council,

I would like to ask if, during a co-option interview for a position of Wetherby Town Councillor, if it it correct that I was asked if I would join the Conservative party. Others who were co-opted a number of years before were also told they had to join the Conservative party because it was a "Conservative seat".

The advice from NALC is as below:
"It is the National Association of Local Councils’ (NALC) policy that party politics should have no place in parish councils, the concept being that parish councillors are there to serve their community as members of that community and should not be sidetracked by party political
issues. NALC does not therefore encourage parish councils to adopt political groupings"

I would like to ascertain if there has been any wrongdoing on the part of Wetherby Town Council with these actions.

Yours faithfully,

Denise Podlewska
