Dear Tom Cole

I refer to your recent request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.  I can confirm that the Council does hold this
information, as detailed below.

1) Do you have a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and/or Policy (or
similar)?  If so please attach.

Sunderland City Council has a Climate Change Action Plan, also known as
the Sustainable Energy Action Plan. (Attached)

2) Has this document been adopted by Council or Cabinet (or similar), if
so, when?

The policy was adopted in 2008 and ratified by Cabinet and EU Covenant of
Mayors, of which we are a member.

3) Has a Councillor been assigned to champion this Strategy/Policy (or
similar), if so, who?

Councillor James Blackburn is the Portfolio Holder for the area of Climate
Change and the environment.

4) Is the strategy/policy (or similar) supported by an
action/programme/project plan? If so, please attach.

The Climate Change Action Plan is in itself an action plan detailing what
the council will do to reduce its own CO2 output and actions taken across
the city.

5) Is this plan delivering on time and to budget?

According to our latest data we are on schedule to deliver our targets
outlined in the plan.

6) What are those timescales and budget?

The aim of the CCAP is to reduce Co2 emissions citywide by 34% of 1990
levels, by 2020.

There is no specific budget aligned to delivering the Climate Change
Action Plan, as the actions outlined in the plan are incorporated within
the various applicable departments.  Therefore any costs associated with
delivering those actions are incorporated into each department’s budget as
appropriate.

7) Are progress reports provided to Cabinet/Council (or similar), if so,
please attach.

Progress reports have been delivered to cabinet in the past (attached). A
full review of the CCAP and report to cabinet is due.

I hope this is satisfactory.  If, however, you are dissatisfied with our
response to your request for information, you can ask for the decision to
be reviewed in reply to this letter.  The review will be removed from the
Directorate and coordinated by the Council’s Information Governance
Officer.   A request for review should be directed, by email to
[1][Sunderland City Council request email], by post or by hand addressed to;
Information Governance Officer, Governance Services, Civic Centre, PO Box
100, Sunderland SR2 7DN.

You are of course entitled to apply to the Information Commissioner at any
time, although the Commissioner will not usually investigate until the
public authority’s internal review procedure has been concluded.

Kind regards
