Clearance of depleted uranium penetrators in Iraq 2003/4

Department for International Development Nid oedd gan y wybodaeth y gofynnwyd amdani.

Dear Department for International Development,

I would like to find out if you have any information concerning the clearance of depleted uranium penetrators in Iraq during the period of 2003 - 2004.

According to the Ministry of Defence DU penetrators were cleared as a part of ordnance disposal work in 2003 - 2004, http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/writt....

I have requested further information from the Ministry of Defence on this issue and was told that the MoD does not hold any information and to ask DfID. http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/fu...

If you do indeed hold this information, I would like to know:

- How much DU penetrator material was collected and how was it disposed?

- How much was spent on the clearance of penetrators?

Yours faithfully,

Aneaka Kellay

Dear Christine Mackintosh,

Thank you for your reply to my request 'Clearance of depleted uranium penetrators in Iraq 2003/4'.

According to the Ministry of Defence, DU penetrators were collected and disposed of through a DfID contract:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/14...

Given this information it seems that clearance of DU penetrator material in Iraq was the responsibility of DfID. Therefore can you tell me who does hold the information requested, namely:

during the period of 2003 - 2004

- How much DU penetrator material was collected in Iraq and how was it disposed?

- How much was spent on the clearance of penetrators?

Yours faithfully,

Aneaka Kellay

Dear Ms Kellay

Dear Ms Kellay

After carrying out an extensive search of our records and consulting with the relevant staff we can confirm that DFID did not fund the project/contract mentioned in the Environmental Screening Note that was sent to you by the Ministry of Defence.
