University of Liverpool Nid oedd gan y wybodaeth y gofynnwyd amdani.

Dear University of Liverpool,

I am writing to you in order to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would like to know for each of the last 10 academic years (2010-11 to 2019-2020):

A) How many students in total were admitted to study the Classics BA (Hons) (Q800) and Classical Studies BA (Hons) (Q810) degrees? (I.e. how many accepted their offers and started the courses)
B) How many of this total number were educated at private schools?
C) How many of this total number were educated at state schools?

If you need any clarification then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

I would also like to request that the information is sent back in an Excel spreadsheet. Please send confirmation of receipt of this request and I look forward to hearing back within 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,

Further to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act we confirm that the
information requested is held by the University of Liverpool.

The information that you have requested is already in the public domain
and is available from HESA, the official agency for the collection,
analysis and dissemination of quantitative information about higher
education in the UK, at [1]https://www.hesa.ac.uk/ and obtaining this
information from HESA will enable you to gather consistent and comparable
data, particularly when defining STEM. Please note that while high level
statistics are readily available from the HESA website, in order to obtain
data at institution level, it might be necessary to submit a custom data
request directly to HESA. Information about this service including how to
make a request is available at
[2]https://www.hesa.ac.uk/services/custom/d....

As this information is reasonably accessible to you by other means and it
is exempt from disclosure under section 21(1) of the Act.  This exemption
is subject to a public interest test.

It is acknowledged that there is a public interest in making information
available that contributes to public debate and understanding about higher
education and this would include information around gender splits and
employability of STEM students. However as noted above, HESA is the
official agency for the collection, analysis and dissemination of
quantitative information about higher education in the UK. It would not be
in the public interest to undermine established processes for the
publication of such information particularly where a commitment has been
made to make this information generally available and the information is
available on request.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request for
information, you have a right under Section 50 of the Freedom of
Information Act to ask the University to review it; however, you must do
so within 40 working days of the date of this response. Your request
should include our reference number and explain the reason for requesting
a review. Email [University of Liverpool request email] or write to the Freedom of Information
