Classics admission statistics (state vs private)

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear University of Warwick,

I am writing to you in order to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would like to know for each of the last 10 academic years (2010-11 to 2019-2020):

A) How many students in total were admitted to study the BA Classics (Q800) and BA Classical Studies (Q820) degrees? (I.e. how many accepted their offers and started the courses)
B) How many of this total number were educated at private schools?
C) How many of this total number were educated at state schools?

If you need any clarification then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

I would also like to request that the information is sent back in an Excel spreadsheet. Please send confirmation of receipt of this request and I look forward to hearing back within 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,

Robyn Schaffer

Data notes:

·        The data includes new entrants only.

·        Grammar schools are included in the state school numbers.

o Please note that Q820 relates to Classical Civilisation, not Classical
studies.

o Where we have stated the value as ‘< 5’ we decline to provide the
actual figure on the grounds that the numbers are very small and could
potentially lead to the identification of individuals, which may place
the University in breach of the General Data Protection Regulation
2016 and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are relying on the exemption
under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in this
regard.

If you are dissatisfied with the way in which your request has been
handled you can request an internal review within one month of our
response and, in the first instance, you are advised to follow the
procedure outlined here:

If you remain dissatisfied with how your request has been handled, you
have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at: The Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Walter Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire,
SK9 5AF (0303 123 1113) ([2]https://ico.org.uk/) There is no charge for
making an appeal.

Yours sincerely,
