Classics admission statistics (state vs private)

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear Newcastle University,

I am writing to you in order to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would like to know for each of the last 10 academic years (2010-11 to 2019-2020):

A) How many students in total were admitted to study the BA Classics (Q800) and BA Classical Studies (Q810) degrees? (I.e. how many accepted their offers and started the courses)
B) How many of this total number were educated at private schools?
C) How many of this total number were educated at state schools?

If you need any clarification then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

I would also like to request that the information is sent back in an Excel spreadsheet. Please send confirmation of receipt of this request and I look forward to hearing back within 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,

Robyn Schaffer

Good morning Robyn,

Thank you for your request for information dated 13/12/2019, please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your request.

Responding to your request would result in reporting small numbers (fewer than 5). This would create a risk of some individuals being identifiable. This information is therefore exempt from disclosure under section 40(2)/40(3)(a)(i) of the Freedom of Information Act (2000), as it is personal data relating to those individuals.

We have provided rounded data in the attached spreadsheet.

I hope that this is of use. If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request you can ask for an internal review. Details of how to do this can be found at: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/foi/access/complain...

If you are not happy with the outcome of the internal review, you then have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner's Office for a decision. Details of how to do this can be found at: http://ico.org.uk/concerns

Kind regards,
